| Jim Hussey, CEO Marina Mechanical: "In tough times, it’s good to remind ourselves that we are part of a trend of unparalleled long-term growth." |
In
today’s market we all face demands to produce more with what we have. In our
Spring 2003 newsletter our feature on Soundwave Studios. This is a great
example of working together as a team to develop a creative approach and avoid
mere price cutting . We earned real rewards for DBD Structures through
efficiency and teamwork. In fact we played the key role in winning them an
important project in a tough market.
In
tough times, it’s good to remind ourselves that we are part of a trend of
unparalleled long-term growth. At the recent annual conference of the Air
Conditioning Contractors of America, we heard Lowell Catlett, the futurist from
the University of New Mexico. If you ever get the chance to hear him, do it! His
interpretation of the world around us is unique and optimistic: In three
generations our life expectancy has grown from 48 years to 78 years. Our earning
power in real dollars has doubled while the cost of feeding our families has
dropped from 30% of our income to just 7%. Combine this with a decrease in the
size of the average family, 2.2 children today compared to 4.6 for our
grandparents, and the result is affluence. For all the anxiety over our economy,
the truth is that we have more disposable income than ever before, and fewer
people to spend it on.
Our economy remains the strongest in the world, and it will continue to grow. We are proving this at Marina Mechanical every day. Because we believe in our economy and our marketplace, we have created jobs and hired more professionals and more tradespersons. As a result, sales and our list of satisfied clients continue to grow. Our strengths continue to lie in the skill, knowledge and professionalism of our employees. Our experience tells us that when we work together, listen to one another, and learn from our mistakes, we improve. Each improvement saves a step, manages a risk, and cuts a cost. Improving efficiency makes it possible to hold the line on price increases while we continue to design, service and install comfort systems that make it possible for our clients to live, work and prosper in healthy environments.
