Denny Mann, Marina Mechanical Vice President of Service |
In construction taking the extra steps to work safely is the
ultimate sign of professionalism. The best contractors have the best safety
programs and the best safety records. Working safely shows real concern for
employees and everyone else on the job. It reflects true leadership that is
strong enough to resist the pressures to take chances to meet deadlines. It
avoids human tragedy and huge financial costs.
Safety discipline is saying loud and clear “You cannot put yourself or other people in danger.” Far from being punishment, safety discipline is protecting everyone on the job site as well as their families.
A good safety record does not just happen. A key element in making it happen is a Safety Director who is truly independent and who has real authority to implement the best safety practices, continuous safety training, and safety discipline that applies to everyone.
We have appointed Dennis Alfaro as our Safety Director. He is charged with doing what it takes to have a safety program that works. Dennis has full authority to determine the best safety practices, develop and implement training programs, conduct unannounced job site safety inspections, determine corrective action, recommend disciplinary action, and coordinate with outside parties.
Our field supervisors are charged with making sure that our employees on the job site work safely. They know the best safety practices and they implement them. They work closely with the owner, general contractor and other trades at the construction site to coordinate safety and joint training.
Each field, shop and service employee knows the importance of safety. They are all trained to identify hazards and are fully authorized to halt work to correct a safety problem.
If anyone working with Marina Mechanical has any concern about safety, we want to know about it. Please let Dennis Alfaro know if you have any suggestions or input that will assist us to implement the best safety practices.
